In different peoples' mythologies, these sea maidens were called differently: mermaids, sirens, Mavkas, undines, pitchforks, etc. Among our Slavic ancestors, the word mermaid comes from the concept “blond,” which meant light and pure. Mermaids live not only in, but also in forest lakes and rivers. In the evenings, mermaids swam to the surface of the reservoir and lured travelers into their watery possessions with sweet songs. You all probably like the cartoon “The Little Mermaid” and you sincerely fell in love with its characters. Let's make our own too.

Making a mermaid applique

  1. To do this, prepare colored cardboard, scissors and glue at your workplace.
  2. Draw the details of the mermaid on green paper: torso, head and arms.
  3. Glue all these parts onto the sheet. Using felt-tip pens, or colored gel pens, or colored pencils, draw eyes, a nose and a mouth on the mermaid’s face. Now take the threads and glue them to the mermaid’s head. This will be wonderful mermaid hair. Glue them in different positions, as if the hair is developing in the water of a dark lake.
  4. Draw on colored paper and cut it out, cut the fish's tail into strips and glue it next to the mermaid.

Today we will make a fairy-tale heroine - a little mermaid. For work we will need:

  • brown and red pencils
  • scissors

Of course, the child still cannot cope with some details of the appliqué made from colored paper. The mother’s task is to cut out ornate shapes and help the baby place them on the cardboard.

For example, one of the complex details is the fish tail of the little mermaid.

Mom also had to decorate the body, but the little one can easily lubricate the finished elements with PVA and glue them to the base of the applique.

You can try to make the next part of the body together - let the mother cut out a circle from paper, and the baby uses scissors to divide it in half and glue it above the tail.

It’s possible that your child won’t be able to design a mermaid head on his own. Although a paper circle is the simplest geometric shape, kids rarely cut it out exactly. It's OK. After making minor adjustments by the mother, the baby can glue the little mermaid’s head to the body on the appliqué.

But cutting out a triangle from colored paper is easier than cutting a circle, because there are no curved lines. If necessary, the figure can be corrected. Glue the new part to the picture.

At the next stage, we glue plastic eyes onto the heroine’s face, draw a nose and mouth with pencils, and also add arms to the sides of the body.

All that remains is to make little paper hands for the little mermaid and decorate the seabed with green algae.

So that the paper heroine does not get bored, we cut out a friend for her - a yellow octopus.

At this point, the work on the colored paper appliqué can be considered complete. You can take the applique to kindergarten to show how great you are with scissors and glue.
